‘Obsession’ breaks new records with unstoppable box office run

The indie horror film Obsessionis still doing surprisingly big numbers at the box office, even after a few weeks in cinemas.

In its fifth weekend, the film earned another like 19 million dollars in North America, according to Variety.

It only dropped about 25 percent from the previous weekend, which shows it is still holding strong compared to most movies at this stage.

The movie was directed by Curry Barker and was made on a very small budget of under one million dollars.

Despite that, it then turned into a massive global success as it the dark psychological drama opened with 17 million dollars in May and has now reached around 188.3 million dollars in US and about 265 million dollars all over the world.

This success, however, has now made Obsessionthe biggest release ever for Focus Features and also the highest earning horror film of 2026 so far.

Reports also say that it achieved something rare by growing in its second and third weekends, something that has not been seen since E.T. The Extra Terrestrial in 1982 outside of holiday periods.

The story is about a young man who uses a strange object called the One Wish Willow to win over his love interest, but things quickly turn dark when his wish does not go the way he expects.

Actor Inde Navarrette also shared that she got a strange real life connection to the film before joining it, adding more attention around the project.
