King Charles and the royal family were taken down memory lane with a surprise update about a beloved member.
Even though Princess Anne may not be a big fan of celebrating her own birthday, the Palace did have something special but low-key arranged in her honour.
The Royal Collection Trust, the Buckingham Palace department which holds the archives of the royal family. As the Princess Royal quietly marked her 76th birthday, two black and white were shared from the royal photo album.
“On this day in 1950 Princess Anne was born,” the caption read. “The first image was taken at her christening in October 1950. Her brother, Prince Charles (now King Charles III) was keen to join in too!”
The group photo features, standing, left to right: The princess’s godparents Vice Admiral Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Princess Margarita of Hohenlohe-Langensburg and the Hon. Andrew Elphinstone.
Meanwhile, the seated are Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, (who represented Princess Anne’s paternal grandmother and godparent Princess Andrew of Greece at the service), Princess Elizabeth holding Princess Anne on her lap; and Queen Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother).
The second image was of a two-year-old Anne, delighted to be photographed.
“Princess Anne was taken annually to The Children’s Studio to allow photographs of the Princess to be released on her birthday.”
According to royal expert Roya Nikkhah, Anne has a “no-frills” approach to her birthday celebrations, which hinges on one single digit.
“Anne’s policy is: ‘I will do things for my birthdays that have a zero, but I won’t do things for my birthdays that have a five’.”
