Perez Hilton’s family has shared a more detailed update on his condition following his hospitalisation after a livestream that appeared to show him self-harming, revealing that he experienced significant blood loss and will need surgery to treat additional injuries.
In a statement, his family wrote: “Perez’s condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”
The family confirmed Hilton remains hospitalised under Florida’s Baker Act, a law that allows for temporary involuntary detention of individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, and said his communication has been limited to immediate family, medical providers and others directly involved in his care.
They asked that only updates shared through his own website be treated as official, and requested privacy for the family, including his three children, as they navigate the aftermath.
According to the statement, Hilton’s children, niece and sister had been at his home just minutes before the livestream began, but left once it became clear he was in crisis.
Some outlets have since reported, citing unnamed sources, that Hilton’s recovery could stretch on for months and that he may be left with permanent scarring, though those specific details haven’t been confirmed directly by his family.
Separately, his mother, Teresita Lavandeira, filed for temporary custody of his three children in Miami family court on August 7, with her attorney saying the request was intended to provide the kids with stability during an especially difficult time.
