The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh brought their successful Commonwealth Games campaign to a close on Sunday.
They returned to the stands to cheer on athletes during the thrilling netball gold medal match in Glasgow.
Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie have been among the Royal Family’s most dedicated supporters throughout the 11-day sporting festival.
Edward’s connection to the Games runs far deeper than a series of appearances.
As Vice-Patron of Commonwealth Sport, the Duke represents King Charles III at Commonwealth sporting events and has played an active role throughout this year’s tournament.
He was also present at the opening ceremony on 23 July, held at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, which made history as the first Commonwealth Games opening ceremony to take place entirely indoors.
King Charles and Queen Camilla officially declared the Games open, while Commonwealth Sport President Donald Rukare addressed the audience alongside senior political leaders.
Since then, the Duke and Duchess have maintained one of the busiest royal schedules of the Games, attending events ranging from bowls and boxing to cycling, netball and Team England engagements, while also meeting competitors and the volunteers who helped make the tournament possible.
Their final appearance comes just a day after they joined the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis for a lively afternoon of competition.
The royal relatives were seen sharing with one particularly heartwarming moment between Prince Edward and Princess Charlotte capturing the attention of royal fans.
