Harry was notably absent as senior members of the Royal Family gathered on Saturday for the King’s Birthday Parade, Trooping the Colour, one of Britain’s most significant ceremonial events.
The grand occasion saw King Charles and Queen Camilla lead proceedings from Horse Guards Parade, joined by senior working royals including Prince William and Princess Catherine.
The event with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also taking prominent positions during the carriage procession and later joining the Royal Family for the Buckingham Palace balcony appearance.
As the ceremony reached its climax, the royals gathered to watch the RAF flypast sweep across the sky in formation, providing a dramatic finale to the King’s official birthday celebrations.
This year’s balcony lineup once again reflected King Charles’s streamlined approach to the monarchy, with only working senior royals appearing for the traditional wave to the crowds.
Absent from the balcony were several members of the wider family, including Prince Harry, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, along with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex more broadly associated with non-working royal roles.
Six and a half years after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties, there is little sense of any gap left within the institution.
Instead, the Royal Family has adapted to a reduced, working core that continues to carry out official engagements with relative stability.
For a brief period in 2024, when both King Charles and the Princess of Wales stepped back from public-facing duties due to health concerns, the monarchy was tested but senior royals quickly stepped up to maintain continuity.
The Princess of Wales has since recovered following cancer treatment and announced in January 2025 that she had entered remission, with both she and the King appearing in strong form during Saturday’s celebrations.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry was seen spending his weekend in the United States, watching the New York Knicks secure an NBA Championship victory in Texas.
Now based in California, the Duke of Sussex continues to observe major royal occasions from afar.
He has not taken part in Trooping the Colour since the final years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, and has never appeared on the balcony for a King’s Birthday Parade.
