Prince William had a cheeky response ready when asked about his plans for his father’s coronation.
King Charleswas crowned alongside Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey on 6 May 2023, with the celebrations continuing the following day with a spectacular concert at Windsor Castle.
But before the royal family’s big weekend got underway, William and Kate stepped out in Soho on 4 May, where they met members of the public outside the Dog and Duck pub.
As William greeted the crowds, one well-wisher asked him whether he had anything exciting planned for the weekend.
“No, very quiet weekend,” the Prince replied, joking that there was “nothing” happening.
His answer prompted laughter from those around him. William took to the stage at the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle on 7 May.
With Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Take That among the star performers, William used his speech to pay a deeply personal tribute to his father.
Opening with another joke, he told the crowd: “A huge thank you to everyone for making this such a special evening.
I want to say a few words about my father, and why I believe this weekend is so important. But don’t worry, unlike Lionel, I won’t go on all night long.”
William then turned his attention to Charles‘ decades of public service, praising his dedication to helping others and his environmental work.
He highlighted his work with The Prince’s Trust, which has supported more than a million young people, including many from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Williamalso praised him for recognising the importance of people from “all faiths, all backgrounds, and all communities”, saying they deserved to be “celebrated and supported”.
And after all the pageantry and public celebration, William ended his speech with a simple message from son to father.
“Pa, we are all so proud of you,” he said.
