Princess Anne received a warm welcome in Cowes on Saturday as she returned to one of Britain’s most celebrated sailing events.
She began a packed day of engagements marking the 200th anniversary of Cowes Week.
Accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Princess Royal was greeted with applause from well-wishers lining High Street before being welcomed by the Isle of Wight’s Lord-Lieutenant, Susie Sheldon.
The royal couple’s first stop was the 200 Maritime Heritage Trail, a special exhibition created by the Classic Boat Museum in partnership with the Royal Yacht Britannia Trust.
After exploring the exhibition, Anne made her way along the bustling high street to the Island Sailing Club, where she attended a reception in her role as the club’s patron.
Her connection to the club continues a royal tradition, following both Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, who previously held the same patronage.
Her schedule is set to continue with a visit aboard a Royal Navy guard ship before watching racing from the historic Royal Yacht Squadron, where she serves as an honorary member.
The Princess is also expected to board THV Patricia, visit East Cowes Sailing Club, and officially open Albany Gardens, rounding off a day dedicated to recognising the Isle of Wight’s proud seafaring heritage.
