Princess Anne has quietly amassed a fortune estimated at up to £20 million, with her decades of relentless royal service helping to shape a considerable personal wealth.
Anne carried out 478 engagements last year alone, taking her lifetime total beyond an extraordinary 11,000.
Her workload has continued to span international visits, diplomatic occasions and major national events, including trips to South Korea, Thailand, Milan, Northern Ireland and Jersey.
Although she was narrowly overtaken by her elder brother, King Charles, who recorded 532 engagements last year while undergoing cancer treatment, Anne still spent more days carrying out official duties than the monarch.
Royal author Norman Baker, whose book And What Do You Do? What The Royal Family Don’t Want You to Know examines the finances of the royal family, estimates Anne’s wealth at between £15 million and £20 million.
“Notwithstanding her advanced years, she regularly tops the poll as the royal who carries out the most public engagements,” Mr Baker told the Daily Mail.
A significant part of Anne’s wealth is believed to be tied to Gatcombe Park, the Gloucestershire estate gifted to her and her then-husband Mark Phillips by the late Queen in 1976.
The Grade II-listed property dates back to the 1770s and is thought to be worth more than £6 million today.
Over the years, the Princess Royal has accumulated an extensive selection of valuable pieces, including a pearl necklace believed to be worth around £1 million, alongside a collection of tiaras and other jewels estimated to be worth a further £5 million.
Her finances are also understood to include inherited wealth held through trusts established for her, including arrangements made by the late Queen Mother.
By the turn of the century, the annual sum had already reached £225,000, with official expenses such as travel covered separately.
