The Prince and Princess of Wales have deliberately kept themselves away from the Sussex reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Palace insiders have claimed that the Waleses, especially, William is still furious with Harry and Meghan for all the hurt they have caused in the previous years. He had been hoping that that his father would be on-board with him but the Highgrove meeting has caused him some distress.
Moreover, there are now whispers about Prince Harry and Meghan to receive a Balmoral invite so Charles can meet his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in peace, as the security row for Harry continues in England. According to a well-placed source the Sussexes could be coming to Scotland and it could bring them face-to-face with William and Catherine.
“Kate feels like the royal family is being hijacked, and the last thing she wants is a showdown with Meghan,” the source told Closer magazine. “She and William don’t want to see the Sussexes welcomed back into the fold.”
The Waleses see the Sussexes as “troublemakers and people who can’t be trusted”. Princess Kate, in particular, is worried and in panic, whereas Meghan believes this a “triumph” that would lead her back on the royal stage.
“To Meghan, this feels hugely symbolic. There was a time when it seemed unthinkable that she would ever be invited back to Balmoral or Buckingham Palace,” the insider noted. “It’s Meghan’s revenge on Kate, in a way. Her message to Kate is, ‘You’ll never win, and you can’t keep us out.’”
