Catherine, the future Queen, has often been compared to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, who, despite her death, holds a special place in people’s hearts.
Speaking of Kate’s response to the comparisons after she was given the title of Princess of Wales, royal expert Richard Kay revealed that she’s flattered.
In a Channel 5 documentary, Kate: Our New Diana, he said that the Princess “is not Diana, she doesn’t want to be that sort of star, and I think on one level she’s highly flattered by” making people remember about the People’s Princess.
However, the love and respect people still have for Diana is unmatched.
“Diana was an international star and still is. On the front page of magazines, she still sells magazines,” Richard said.
Another royal commentator, Simon Vigar, shared that William and Harry’s mother was a “remarkable” member of the firm as there’s never been anyone quite like her. She is irreplaceable.
He added, “Kate has acknowledged herself what a force for change Diana was, and I think William and Kate are trying to follow in their mother’s footsteps and then take that change on and keep it going.”
However, one thing that Kate surely learned from Diana’s horrific experiences of privacy invasion is to take control of privacy matters into her own hands.
“What Kate has done, which is very interesting, is use her skills as a photographer,” pointed out the royal expert.
“They offer up a glimpse of their home life from time to time, just enough to keep the public and media satisfied, but there are absolute boundaries.”
