ISLAMABAD: The killing of a woman, identified as Hina Javed, in Rawalpindi’s Lalkurti area has sparked outrage on social media, with Pakistani celebrities and citizens calling for justice and greater attention to violence against women.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines police station, while the deceased had been married for nine months, according to the police officials. The body was found from a bathroom at her home.
According to a first information report (FIR), the woman’s hands were tied behind her back, and her mouth was covered with a piece of cloth when her body was found.
Police arrested two suspects including the victim’s husband and a domestic worker, while her father-in-law was also named in the case but had not been arrested.
Pakistani actress Mahira Khan took to Instagram to speak about the case, expressing sorrow over the incident in her Instagram Stories. The actor shared a letter from Hina’s family and her picture in bridal attire.
Meanwhile, actor Iffat Omar addressed Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in a social media post, urging her to intervene in cases involving violence against women.
Iffat also said that Hina was ‘killed’ by her husband. She also highlighted the killing of another woman, Hina Zarif, in Islamabad, allegedly by her family over her refusal to enter a forced marriage.
Addressing Maryam, Iffat urged the chief minister to use her position to seek justice for the victims, writing that she should act “not as a politician, but as a woman” who understands the struggles faced by women.
Separately, social media users have also reacted strongly to the incident, with further reactions emerging online.

According to the page’s bio, Hina was “brutally murdered by her husband in Rawalpindi on August 20, 2026.” The account has since been sharing posts related to the case and urging the public to amplify calls for accountability.
