Bangtan Boys decided to get a head start on RM’s special day, turning their final Los Angeles concert stop into an early birthday celebration for their leader, whose real name is Kim Namjoon.
On Sunday night, September 6, during the fourth and final night of BTS’ sold-out Los Angeles concerts at SoFi Stadium as part of the group’s ARIRANG World Tour, the septet celebrated RM’s birthday with the BTS ARMY.
The celebrations kicked off behind the scenes during day four of BTS’ L.A. soundcheck, where members and staff surprised the birthday boy with a cake decorated with colourful candles.
In the video, the South Korean rapper can be seen walking into a room filled with bright balloons with a cake in his hands. Dressed casually in a gray hoodie and black cap, he reacts with a mixture of surprise and amusement as the people around him join in the celebration.
The birthday fun did not stop backstage.
During another concert moment, Suga took charge of RM’s birthday styling. He placed a multi-colour “Happy Birthday” sash around his shoulders before topping off the look with a pink paper crown, while the 31-year-old singer smiles shyly and takes it all in.
Notably, the LA show marked the conclusion of BTS’ North American leg before the tour moves on to Latin America, giving the group and their fans one more memorable moment to celebrate together.
Why did BTS celebrate RM’s birthday early?
RM’s actual birthday is September 12, but the group’s schedule meant they would no longer be in Los Angeles together on that date.
With the North American shows wrapping up on September 6 and no concerts or major official schedules bringing the members together around RM’s actual birthday, the group may have decided there was no reason to wait.
