Take-Two Interactive is scrambling to identify a prolific leaker who has released several gameplay clips of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, months before its November 19 launch.
Considering the repeated leaks, the publisher has filed subpoena requests in federal court, urging Microsoft and Discord to hand over user data, IP addresses, phone numbers, and account information associated with the individual or group behind the leaks.
The user, operating under the alias “Cyberleek,” has released at least seven footage dumps reflecting gameplay, vehicle physics, and even a strip club interior.
In these new clips, one can see Jason, the protagonist of the movie, steal from gas stations and wreck cars through the slow-motion effects that occur because of impact. In addition, the videos show the entire map of Leonida, which is the imaginary Miami in the game, according to leakers.
This marks the third significant GTA VI leak, following a massive 2022 breach that exposed early development footage.
This is the third leak of GTA 6, following an extensive leak last year that featured the early development footage of the game. Regardless of the enhanced security measures set by Rockstar, the leaks continue.
The popular GTA streamer DarkViperAU, who had his Discord server was cited in the subpoena, has denied any involvement, saying, “I don’t know anything. That isn’t my editor’s Discord.”
With Netflix set to recognise GTA VI gameplay next week, Rockstar faces an uphill battle to control the narrative as leaks continue to flood social media.
