Role Model has a message for everyone still asking the same question: No, his parents did not actually name him Role Model.
The singer-songwriter, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, has spent nearly a decade performing under the unusual moniker.
But after years of seeing the same social media joke, he’s apparently considering a rebrand — even if he thinks it might be too late.
“I would love to,” the 29-year-old told Rolling Stone. “I just really have a gut feeling that it’s too late.”
The online commentary is apparently the real issue.
“I think what bothers me the most is no matter what, whenever my comes up on anything on Twitter, every comment is like, ‘What parents name their kid Role Model?’” he said sarcastically.
Pillsbury then brought some famous backup into the argument.
“Does Post Malone go through that? Or does Lil Wayne?” Role Model asked. “Like, who names their kid Lil? Just use your brain. Think for a second.”
Touché.
Still, the singer isn’t completely joking about a change.
“Yes, I’ll probably change my name,” he deadpanned. “There you go.”
For now, however, fans shouldn’t start calling him Tucker just yet. No official name change has been announced.
The timing is interesting, though. Pillsbury recently spoke about feeling like he’s entering a new chapter of life as friends marry, start families and move away.
“I’m hitting that age now where a lot of people are getting married around me, and everybody’s moving ahead in their lives and starting families or falling in love or moving away, and I always kind of felt stagnant,” he said.
For now, Role Model is still Role Model — but Tucker might be warming up in the bullpen.
His third album, Chuck Timely & the Hourglass, arrived August 7, with his Chuck On Tour beginning September 9.
