A passenger’s worst nightmare became a reality aboard Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas this week when a cabin was suddenly flooded by water pouring through the ceiling.
Video clips of the event have gone viral, accumulating over 6.5 million views, after being uploaded on Instagram by a passenger named Dominic Arcangelo.
The videos were taken on Tuesday night, capturing a chaotic scene in one of the staterooms on Deck 12, where water was flowing through light fixtures and accumulating in the room, covering the floor up to 1-2 inches deep. The caption for the video says, “Room next to ours was flooded along with many surrounding halls and rooms.”
The cause of the leak was identified by fellow passenger Jessica Cunningham, who said she was the woman in yellow in the video and that her nephew, Arcangelo, had filmed it.
The reason was said to be a “jacuzzi leak”, and she added that her husband’s cell phone, which had been left charging inside the cabin, was damaged.
The leaking cabin was known to be number 12539, an ordinary interior room.
Though the leakage caused a lot of trouble for people around, Royal Caribbean crew reacted swiftly and, as Cunningham described: “We got moved rooms and packed out all of our things. Put all the clothes in trash bags for laundry.”
The cruise ship maintained its schedule and carried out an 8-night Eastern Caribbean voyage as usual.
Allure of the Seas is currently sailing on an itinerary that started on July 25 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. According to CruiseMapper, the ship is currently on its way back home and is expected to arrive in Florida by August 2 after leaving St. Thomas bound for Perfect Day at CocoCay.
