Samsung wasted no time firing back at Apple after the iPhone manufacturer released its first foldable phone, “iPhone Duo,” on Wednesday, September 9.
The Korean tech giant flooded social media with sarcastic posts mocking Apple’s late entry into a category Samsung has dominated since launching the original Galaxy Fold in 2019.
Samsung Mobile US shared on X (formerly Twitter): “Let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers.”
Samsung Canada also posted a reel of the Galaxy Z Fold on Instagram with the text: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
The jabs didn’t stop there. Ahead of Apple’s announcement, Samsung teased: “Making us wait? Fine. We’ll be over here, folding 3 ways.”
Earlier, it posted: “So far, so same” with the hashtag #ItsTimeToSwitch.
Duolingo also joined the fray, referencing its similar name to the iPhone Duo, to which Samsung replied: “I’m so sorry, @DuoLingo. They copied us too #Solidarity.” Duolingo shot back: “When an ugly stranger calls you twin.”
Since Apple’s new CEO, John Ternus, had complained about current foldable smartphones as “being like two phones stuck together,” it made Samsung’s actions even more justified.
Samsung is releasing its Galaxy Z Fold 8 in October, priced at $1,899. The iPhone Duo from Apple will be introduced the same month for $1,999. This means that there will be a difference of only $100 between the two smartphones. According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung will have 32%, and Apple will grab 25%.
