Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman gave fans an unexpected treat on Saturday night, making a surprise appearance at a Cinespia screening of Practical Magicat Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, just weeks ahead of the long-awaited sequel’s release.
The pair walked on stage unannounced to the roar of the crowd, with Bullock leaning into the setting’s spookier undertones.
“Thank you so much for coming out tonight. Perfect movie to show in a cemetery,” she told the audience, before adding: “We should also thank the spirits that are floating around us as well because you’re on their seats.”
Kidman thanked fans for helping bring the sequel to life, saying: “Thank you for all your support for getting this second film made that’s coming to you very soon.”
The two also introduced Joey King and Maisie Williams, who play the daughters of Bullock and Kidman’s characters in Practical Magic 2, before the group shared a toast, with Kidman calling out: “Should we raise a glass? A midnight Margarita, maybe? To the coven.”
The appearance came as part of Cinespia’s 25th anniversary season at Hollywood Forever, an outdoor screening series that also has The Mummy, a Mia Goth double feature of Xand Pearl, Coming to Americaand a 40th anniversary showing of Labyrinth scheduled through August.
Practical Magic 2, based on Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic, finds Bullock’s Sally Owens now raising two daughters of her own with their own magical abilities, drawing the family into a fresh confrontation with a dark family curse.
The sequel also brings back Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, alongside new cast additions Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod.
Practical Magic 2opens in theatres on 11 September.
