Sean “Diddy” Combs is expected to be released from prison four months earlier than his original sentencing.
According to Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate records reviewed by USA Today on Wednesday, July 29, the disgraced music mogul is now expected to be released on January 23, 2028.
Combs’ release timeline has shifted several times since he began serving his sentence. When he was sentenced to 50 months in prison in October 2025, his projected release date was listed as May 8, 2028 before being pushed back and revised multiple times. Earlier this year, the date was changed to April 25, then April 15, before moving to Feb. 23, 2028, and now January.
Projected release dates can change based on factors such as good behaviour, time served and participation in prison rehabilitation programs. The latest change comes despite unverified reports that Combs had been placed in solitary confinement after a prison fight broke out.
The Bad Boy Records founder has been behind bars since his September 2024 arrest, and that time served counted towards his final sentence.
Before sentencing, Combs told the court he had become sober “for the first time in 25 years,” was attending therapy and had started a mentorship program for fellow inmates.
After a two-month trial from May 2025 to July 2025, Combs was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. A jury acquitted him of the more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges at the conclusion of his high-profile trial.
His legal team is continuing its effort to overturn the conviction.
Combs, who has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct, also remains the defendant in more than 70 civil lawsuits across the United States.
