Selena Gomez is fighting back against investors who accused her of fraud over the mental health startup Wondermind.
Her attorney, Mathew S. Rosengart, told Peoplemagazine on Saturday, August 15, that Gomez plans to seek dismissal of what he calls “baseless claims” against her.
“The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally. We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her,” Rosengart says.
The lawsuit, filed earlier this week, names Gomez, 34, her mother Mandy Teefey, 50, and former business partner Daniella Pierson, 31. Two companies, Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, claim the trio “falsely represented” the startup’s infrastructure, leadership and resources.
The investors say they put nearly $1.2 million into Wondermind but were allegedly left unaware as the company “quietly collapsed around them.” They say they learned about its financial troubles last fall through a report in The Cut, which included claims from former employees about Teefey’s leadership.
Wondermind had already faced scrutiny after Forbesreported in May 2025 that the company was struggling to pay employees. At the time, a source told Peoplemagazine that Gomez had invested more money after learning about the financial setback, despite not being involved in the company’s day-to-day operations.
