Shania Twain is looking back without looking back in anger.
As the country-pop icon celebrates the release of her seventh studio album, Little Miss Twain, she’s opening up about the hardships that shaped both the music and the woman behind it.
“I’ve already spent all of my life processing the challenges [I’ve had],” Twain said. “I’m at a place where I really enjoy looking back on it with a smile.”
The 60-year-old singer has overcome more than most. She lost her mother and stepfather in a tragic car crash at 22, raised her younger siblings, survived a painful divorce, battled Lyme disease and fought to save her voice.
Yet her outlook hasn’t changed.
“I’ve gotten through difficult times by being capable of finding courage, being brave and pushing through the fear,” she said. “Fear fuels me.”
Her latest album revisits the memories that came long before the fame, including growing up in poverty.
“I grew up really quickly. We didn’t always have money to pay the bills… making meals out of nothing — whatever was left in jars, like ketchup sandwiches,” Twain recalled, adding that music became hope for her family.
The album also reunites her with country legend Tanya Tucker, a full-circle moment she calls “very, very surreal.”
After more than 100 million records sold and decades in the spotlight, Twain says she’s finally entered her strongest chapter.
“I am in charge again.”
