The drama of the past few weeks between the royals and the Sussexes has now made to the UK’s iteration of Saturday Night Live.
The comedy sketch show kicked off its second season with cold open lampooning on Prince Harry and Meghan marking their return to the UK and how King Charles and Queen Camilla reacted to it.
Actors Jack Shep and Ayoade Bamgboye, portraying the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, visit King Charles III (Larry Dean) and Queen Camilla (Emma Sidi) at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
Harry announces, “Daddy, I’m home.”
To which, Charles is seen puzzled and asks, “What are you doing here? Don’t tell me you’ve spent all your Netflix money already.”
“It was $60 million. How long was it meant to last?” Harry responds.
There was also a reference to Harry and Meghan’s claims about racism in the family as Camilla greets them.
“Hello, sweet Harry,” Camilla says adding, “And beautiful Meghan, as brown as ever”.
The sketch went on to drag Meghan’s As Ever products, suggesting that she “hires the best cooks” for her lifestyle project.
Fans had plenty to say about the skit.
“It’s funny because it’s true. And everyone is thinking it.”
“At this point, Harry and Meghan should just ask SNL for royalties. The writers seem to get more material from them than Netflix ever did.”
Many praised the bold satire that the UK version of the show has been doing.
“Oh the writing here is so much stronger than it is on SNL. The American version has gone through periods of brilliance- 2016-17 comes to mind- and periods of silliness and irrelevance. I judge the current iteration to be…less than brilliant. Shall have to watch a full ep of the British version.”
“And OF COURSE SNL UK knocked it out of the park yet again – welcome back!!” one user added. “Watching from Canada”
“So glad this show is back. Now I can get my weekly fill of British political commentary I won’t fully understand!”
