Sombr honoured his friend Taylor Swift with a tribute performance at the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame ceremony, and he shared the behind-the-scenes details during a recent interview.
The 21-year-old musician recalled feeling nervously excited to perform for the pop superstar, 36, and revealed that he had to avoid making eye contact with Swift.
“That’s Taylor Swift. That’s a goddess,” the homewrecker hitmaker told Variety, adding, “If I looked at her for three seconds during the performance, my mind would have completely blanked.”
Sombr noted that he ended up looking “at her for a split second while performing and almost losing it, but then I looked away.”
The back to friends singer also shared that he had asked the Grammy winner to choose her own songs because it was her day, but she left the choice to him.
Swifties flocked to the comments after Sombr’s interview went viral, and reacted to the confession, with one writing, “The fans knows this can be true . Seeing Taylor Swift in person would just blows me away. Mind gone.”
