The first reviews for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” are in, and critics are appreciating Tom Holland’s new addition to the trilogy.
The film currently holds an impressive 89-90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from over 70 reviews, making it one of the best-reviewed Marvel films since 2021.
However, the film scores are the lowest of Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy, as No Way Home, Homecoming, and Far From Home earned 93%, 92%, and 91% respectively. Despite being the lowest, the reviewers are calling it “the most grounded, mature Spider-Man story yet” and praising Holland’s “most nuanced and emotionally resonant portrayal” of Peter Parker.
Highlights from some of the reviews also include action sequences that have been referred to as “some of the best the MCU has given us in years,” in conjunction with an emotional touch that has had many critics confessing to “crying several times.” The Punisher in the movie has been praised as “a pure pleasure” and “comedy gold,” whereas Sadie Sink’s first appearance in the MCU has been hailed as “absolute perfection” and “inspired casting.”
Some reviewers also mentioned minor negative criticism, noting the 2.5-hour runtime feels “bloated” and “overstuffed.”
