Tate McRae was putting up shows every single night during the Miss Possessive tour, while internally battling her feelings of self-doubt, and loneliness but Sylvia Plath’s words came to her rescue.
The 23-year-old Canadian musician shared that when she read Plath’s words she deeply resonated with them and they brought her back from the web of her dark thoughts.
In a new interview, the greedy hitmaker said, “I remember reading Sylvia Plath being like, ‘I am her,’ My thoughts felt so dark at the time, and I felt so lonely. I really needed to come back into my body and regulate my nervous system. I was so shot after the tour. I couldn’t really sleep at night.”
McRae continued, “I’d seen so much of myself that I was like, ‘I want to go into a black room and not look in a mirror for six months.’ And I think I really had to check myself and be like, ‘You’re not the worst person in the world. You’re not the ugliest person in the world. You haven’t done everything wrong. And, you know, you’re just doing what you love.’”
Social media users flocked to the comments and reacted to the confession, with one writing, “no because I said this out loud reading the bell jar so I get it.”
Another added, “every woman experiences this once in their lifetime.”
While others mocked her for the remarks, writing, “she shouldn’t do press. she’s someone that needs to do her choreo and avoid speaking in public” and “Every Tumblr girl circa 2012.”
