A new $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump is going on sale Wednesday as the US Mint releases its 2026 Semiquincentennial dollar, marking one of the most unusual additions to American coinage in years.
The coin will be available from the US Mint at noon Eastern Time, with collectors able to buy rolls containing 25 coins for $61 or bags containing 100 coins for $154.50. Orders are initially limited to two of each product per household.
Trump’s portrait appears on the front of the coin, alongside the words “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the dual date “1776 ~ 2026.”
The reverse carries the Presidential Seal, with “250” incorporated into the design to mark America’s 250th anniversary.
US Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna designed the obverse using an official White House photograph of Trump taken by Daniel Torok.
And there is a little surprise hidden among the coins.
The Mint struck 250,000 Trump dollars on July 4 with a special “JULY 4th” privy mark. Those coins have been mixed into the rolls and bags rather than being sold separately, giving collectors a reason to search through the new dollars.
One of the special coins was actually discovered before today’s official release after a collector obtained an advanced-delivery roll. The discovery piece was certified as an MS64 example.
Despite their golden appearance, the coins are not made of gold. They use a copper-based manganese-brass composition similar to modern US dollar coins.
The coins have a circulating finish and are legal tender, but the Mint is selling these particular rolls and bags as numismatic products rather than putting them into general circulation.
Trump’s appearance on the coin has also attracted plenty of attention online, with supporters celebrating the design while collectors focus more closely on the potentially harder-to-find July 4th versions.
