Trump to give $5000 to every adult American if Republican party wins midterms: How much will it cost?

United States President Donald Trump has said that he would give every adult American $5000 if his Republican Party wins both chambers of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections, scheduled to be held in November 2026.

The first of its kind offer was made during the party’s first-convention during the 80-year-old leader’s presidential term. He shared no details on how he plans to distribute the money or the framework surrounding his plan.

If the 47th POTUS moves forward with his offer, it’ll cost more than $1 trillion as there are 245.3 million adult citizens in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

More precisely:

245.3 million × 5,000 = 1,226,500,000,000

That’s 1.2265 trillion.

Trump has named the proposed payment the “Trump dividend,” telling supporters in Dallas: “If the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000.”

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has linked the plan to the money earned by the country in the form of tariffs on foreign goods.

Critics have questioned the legal grounds behind the president’s unusual promise while Democratic Party described the offer as an “empty promise.”

This comes at a time when Trump’s popularity in the U.S. has shrunk to record low, hovering between 33% and 35% in major national polls as tracked by The Economist.
