A U.S. Postal Service whistleblower has come forward with alarming allegations that the agency is rushing to implement a new mail-ballot screening system that could disenfranchise millions of voters ahead of the November midterm elections.
The unidentified federal employee said the Postal Service had been able to create the “Federal Ballot Mail Portal” within weeks, much quicker than the usual time of nine months to a year needed for a complex project like this. This is because of the executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which required more stringent mail voting processes, including bar codes on each ballot envelope matching the state-provided information of voters.

Blumenthal told reporters: “The main takeaway for me is that the Postal Service has designed a system to disenfranchise millions of Americans. One third of all Americans cast their ballots by mail,” Blumenthal told reporters.
Additionally, the whistleblower claims that USPS proceeded with the development of the portal despite orders from the U.S. federal court that banned the execution of President Trump’s executive order. Earlier, a federal judge had issued an injunction against the directive; however, the Supreme Court lifted it because of the procedural violation, as the states initiated their lawsuits prematurely.
North Carolina is expected to start mailing its ballots Friday, with other states doing the same in mid-September. Therefore, the officials claim that there is no time for this kind of disruption. In addition, Connecticut Attorney General Blumenthal demands that USPS stop the “ill-conceived, unconscionable” plan.
