A lockdown on the Virginia State University campus has been lifted after nearly seven hours since the Police responded to a shooting incident that left the five injured.
Chesterfield County Police said officers responded to the incident at around 1:30 a.m. early Saturday and found five people suffering from gunshot wounds, who were later transported to the hospital for medical care.
One of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries; however, their status has now been updated to critical, while others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Law enforcement officials have urged the public to avoid the area as the incident remains under investigation.
Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
The university said that the shooting involved multiple suspects, who remain at large as no arrests regarding the incident have been announced by the Police so far.
In a social media post, VSU said: “VSU Police and the Chesterfield County Police Department are actively investigating. The campus community should continue to avoid the area and follow all law enforcement instructions.”
County police is leading the investigation alongwith assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Sheriff’s Office.
