
The U.S. Army has conducted a successful test of a new electronic warfare system that aims to scramble the enemy’s navigation signals.
This marks a major advancement in modern military technology.
The system, named “Hammer of the Gods”, was tested at sea off the U.S. West Coast in mid-July as part of the Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PC-6) experiment. This is the official inauguration of the maritime variant, following land-based demonstrations over the past two years.
The system works as a portable signal disruptor that blinds enemy precision-guided weapons, including long-range artillery, guided missiles, and cruise missiles. It works by jamming positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) signals, including GPS data.
The accuracy of weapons becomes poor due to the absence of proper PNT information, making them more likely to miss their target or delay the mission.
It provides a strong communication link between friendly forces so that they can communicate even in an environment with intense electronic jamming. This link connects military equipment together, and hence it is possible to conduct missions even in difficult conditions.
According to Army officials, the counter-PNT system can be effectively deployed, operated and retrieved in realistic maritime settings. The test involved the U.S. Army, Navy and Space Force along with the U.S. Space Forces Pacific, Naval Base San Diego and the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defence Command.
Why is it called Hammer of the Gods?
It is named after Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, the system delivers an unstoppable “strike” against enemy precision weapons, symbolising overwhelming power.
