Thousands of Monzo customers across the UK have reported disruption as a major technical issue, leaving users unable to make bank transfers and access key app features.
Monzo has been relatively tight-lipped about the root cause. The bank stated: “We’re currently experiencing a technical issue and are working to resolve this as soon as possible.”
There are no further reports on what triggered the disruption.
The outage started around midday on August 19, with DownDetector reporting over 3,200 reports of problems by 1:05 p.m. Users logging into the app see the message: “We’re experiencing issues. We’ll let you know when they’re resolved.”
What’s Working and What’s Not
Customers are able to see their account balances and use their cards for payment, but are unable to transfer money.
As reported by The Independent, a Monzo spokesperson confirmed: “We’ve moved into our backup system, Monzo stand-in, and customers can still do most things on their Monzo app, including sending bank transfers and making card payments and ATM withdrawals.”
The company also acknowledged the issue on their social media, stating: “Our team is aware of the issue and working on a fix to get things running again ASAP.”
