A woman has died on the final day of the Houghton Festival in Norfolk, organisers have confirmed. The death occurred at around 6:10 P.M. on Sunday, August 9th, at the 1,000-acre grounds of Houghton Hall near King’s Lynn.
The police were summoned after fears arose regarding the safety of a woman found unconscious in a tent. Despite the attempts made by the doctors at the scene, she could not be saved and passed away. Norfolk Police have stated that the next of kin have been notified.
This event takes place between August 6th and August 9th and usually attracts up to 10,000 people. It was founded by Fabric co-founder Craig Richards in 2017 and is loved for being played non-stop for 24 hours a day.
In an official statement, Houghton Festival expressed their devastation: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a person has passed away at Houghton 2026. Our thoughts are entirely with their family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
“We are grateful to our onsite medical team, event response team and Norfolk Constabulary, who all responded immediately. We continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to support in any way we can with their investigations,” the statement continued.
However, the Norfolk Constabulary revealed that the death “is currently being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious.” More inquiries are still underway, and no other information about the dead female is available.
The 2026 lineup for the festival was set to be headlined by famous personalities of the electronic music genre such as Ben UFO, Helena Hauff, Objekt, Underground Resistance & Saul Williams, and Paquita Gordon.
This unfortunate event happened less than a week after another young girl aged 17 lost her life at Kendal Calling Festival located in the Lake District.
