Kyle Richards’ 30th wedding anniversary didn’t exactly come with champagne and roses.
Instead, it brought tears, a painful text from Mauricio Umansky and some very blunt advice from Vicki Gunvalson.
Three years after Richards and Umansky confirmed their separation, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star found herself struggling with what would have been their 30th anniversary on January 20.
“I’m just having a moment,” an emotional Kyle told Vicki during a preview for the August 16 episode of Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th. “Today’s my 30-year anniversary. It makes me sad.”
Then Umansky texted.
“He sent me a text and it just sent me off,” Kyle said.
“He said today’s always such a hard day and I love you. He said I don’t know how we got here. I thought we were stronger than that. I really had thought that.”
Vicki, who divorced Donn Gunvalson in 2010, clearly saw some of her own regrets in Kyle’s situation.
“My heart is breaking for Kyle,” she said. “You’re supposed to grow old together, you’re supposed to do life together.”
But Vicki wasn’t about to let Kyle wallow without some tough love.
“You should be,” Vicki said when Kyle mentioned feeling ashamed. “You let your family down. You let your kids down. You’re showing them it’s okay to bail out when things get tough. It’s not okay.”
Later, Vicki admitted she wished someone had stopped her before her own divorce.
“I wish somebody would have come up to me when I decided to divorce Donn 16 years ago to say, ‘Stop,'” she confessed.
And that hit Kyle hard.
“When I hear Vicki say that the pain still lives within her, it scares me,” Kyle admitted. “I want to be past this. I don’t want to be Vicki.”
Three years on, it seems the anniversary still knows exactly where to find the feelings.
