Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is set to appear before court to testify as a witness at his son, Shilo’s bankruptcy trial.
The trial is scheduled to begin on August 31, 2026, the same week as Colorado plays its opener.
That Thursday, September 3, Colorado faces Georgia Tech.
The judge overseeing the trial also passed remarks on the situation during a pre-trial hearing.
“I’m also concerned there’s a game: CU’s first game is that same week. So I can see that coming. I am not a CU alum or I have no ties to CU. So I don’t care. But I’m recognising that is a potential issue,” remarked Judge Michael E. Romero.
Though, Deion has the option to file a court petition to quash the subpoena.
Shilo Sanders declared bankruptcy in 2023 with more than $11 million in debt.
The trail is expected to last for five days until September 4, 2026.
The lawsuit stemmed from an incident in 2015, when John Darjean, a former security guard at Shilo’s school, alleged Shilo caused injuries to Darjean when he tried to seize Shilo’s phone.
Darjean ultimately won a default judgement of $11.89 million, after Shilo failed to appear before the court at trial.
Now, as per the federal bankruptcy laws, the debt can only be legally erased if it was not a “wilful and malicious injury.”
