Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are “confirmed” to be returning to UK with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The news came from the Sussexes’ favoured American outlet People Magazine, and Prince William and Princess Catherine are left in shock. According to the outlet, the King was informed of the move just a few days prior but the Waleses had no idea about it.
William and Kate were “blindsided” and they fear this decision would change the dynamics of the royal family. A source told Rob Shuter that it “if this really was about rebuilding trust with the royal family, the palace would have been given the respect of making the announcement”.
William and Harry remain estranged and haven’t spoken to each other in more than four years. This could potentially cause a lot of awkwardness between the royal family members now.
Another insider pointed out that they are “still loose cannons” and the Palace did not want to find out this big news from the American media.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had left the UK back in 2020 to start their new life in the US. They settled in Montecito in 2021. It is understood that they would be keeping that property and their vacation home in Portugal as the move to Britain is not permanent.
“The American dream did not turn out the way they planned,” the source said. “The deals came, the headlines came, but the enormous financial independence they talked about never really materialised.”
Insiders reiterated that the move is about money and Harry knows that his father King Charles is the person who can make life “much easier” for him and the family.
