Olivia Rodrigo is releasing a special song in support of the cause of women empowerment ahead of her all-women Daisy Chain Fields festival.
The 23-year-old pop superstar released the song, Serena Joy, on limited-edition CDs at Analog Records in Orange County on August 21, and announced that it will be released digitally on August 24.
The drop dead hitmaker wrote the song inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale character of the same name, who was an activist for conservative ideals and ended up being oppressed by those same ideals that she supported.
All the proceeds from the song will support her upcoming women-led music festival on August 29.
The song took the internet by the storm and fans rushed to social media and supported Rodrigo for her activism, writing, “olivia releasing a political song about women’s rights right before her all-female festival… yeah i’m stanning her for life.”
Another cheered, “WE’RE READY,” and “WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WTF WHAT OMG??????? BUT LIKE IT IS AS A BONUS TRACK DELIXE JUST INDEPENDENT SINGLE??? WTF.”
More chimed in, “and we will all be streaming,” as well as, “Album smashing and she’s still feeding us oh Olivia.”
While one gushed, “AYYY CANT WAIT.”
