Joan Jett has cancelled two upcoming tour dates after undergoing orthopaedic surgery to repair a fractured vertebra, with the rock icon now focused on physical therapy ahead of a planned return to the stage.
A statement shared through Jett’s official social media channels on Wednesday confirmed the singer would be unable to perform at two previously scheduled September shows, in Costa Mesa, California on 5 September and Louisville, Kentucky on 24 September.
“Following a recent injury, Joan Jett has undergone orthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebrae and will begin the necessary healing process,” the statement read.
“In close consultation with her doctors, Joan will not be able to perform at her forthcoming September-scheduled shows… While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing.”
No further tour dates have been affected by the announcement.
The health setback arrives at an otherwise busy moment for Jett and the Blackhearts, with Blackheart Recordsproceeding as planned with a 45th anniversary reissue of the band’s breakthrough album I Love Rock ‘N Roll, due out 28 August.
The record, featuring the band’s signature title track, remains one of the defining rock releases of the early 1980s and helped cement Jett’s status as one of rock’s most enduring performers.
Jett, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, has remained a consistent presence on the touring circuit for decades, known for her high-energy live shows.
The band has asked fans for patience and understanding as Jett focuses on her recovery, with no word yet on when she expects to return to the stage.
