A How to Lose a Guy in 10 Dayssequel is officially in the works at Paramount, with Kate Hudson attached to produce.
According to Varietyreports, the project is still in early development, with a screenwriter yet to be hired and casting still undecided, though filmmakers and the studio are hoping to bring back Hudson and original co-star Matthew McConaughey to reprise their roles once a take on the script comes together.
Hudson is producing through her Shiny Penny banner alongside Stacey Sher, whose extensive producing résumé includes Pulp Fiction, Erin Brockovich, Gattacaand Django Unchained.
The sequel arrives amid a broader wave of Y2K nostalgia currently sweeping Hollywood, following a string of throwback box office hits this year including The Devil Wears Prada 2, Scary Movieand Toy Story 5, with Practical Magic 2and Focker-In-Lawon the way, plus Shrek 5and Greta Gerwig’s Narniaadaptation both set for 2027.
Plot details for the follow-up haven’t been determined yet.
The 2003 original followed magazine columnist Andie Anderson, played by Hudson, and advertising executive Benjamin Barry, played by McConaughey, in a cat-and-mouse romance.
Andie sets out to write an article on driving a man away by becoming the ultimate bad girlfriend, unaware that Benjamin has bet his boss he can make any woman fall for him within the same ten-day window, using her as his target for a high-stakes ad campaign.
The film, directed by Donald Petrie with supporting turns from Kathryn Hahn, Adam Goldberg, Thomas Lennon, Michael Michele and Shalom Harlow, grossed nearly $180 million worldwide on a $50 million budget and remains regarded as a genre staple.
