Benny Blanco has finally revealed the “secret” behind winning Selena Gomez – and apparently, there was no magic involved.
The Grammy-winning producer, 38, offered a surprisingly simple explanation for how he ended up with the singer and actress, admitting he did not need some elaborate strategy to win her over.
“I didn’t use, like, black magic or anything,” Blanco said during his September 13 appearance on the Todayshow. “I just was nice.”
Fair enough, Hollywood may have just discovered its most low-tech dating hack.
The music producer said the real key to their relationship is understanding each other and keeping communication open.
“It’s like understanding your partner and being able to talk about things, and have an open dialogue,” he continued.
“Yeah, we’re in a really good spot, and I’m very fortunate. And I think, again, not being a dick and being nice to people put her in my orbit.”
The advice apparently matches the wish list Blanco once created with his therapist while hoping to find his future wife.
“The first thing on my list was age-appropriate,” Blanco said on The Mel Robbins Podcast. “Then the second thing on my list was, someone who’s nice. Nice, caring, compassionate, like someone who’s a nice person.”
His third requirement? Someone who “woke up generally happy.”
Blanco and Gomez began dating in 2023 and got engaged in December 2024 before marrying in September 2025 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
And their wedding was apparently just as unconventional as their romance. Blanco said Gomez wanted Persian rugs instead of a traditional aisle and specifically didn’t want the celebration to feel “bougie.”
“So it was incredible and you could tell we put so much effort into it, but also didn’t feel stuffy.”
Turns out, the road to Selena Gomez may have been less black magic and more basic human decency.
