Beyonce celebrates birthday with 4 new tracks on her sophomore album BDay

Beyoncé is celebrating her 45th birthday with some new music.

On Friday, September 4, Queen Bey released the 20th anniversary edition of her sophomore album B’Day, featuring new collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Maluma and the late Selena Quintanilla.

With a total of 31 tracks, the anniversary edition brings together the original 2006 album with previously unreleased songs including Creole, Back Up, Lost Yo Mind, and Can I Watch You, featuring Pharrell Williams.

Beyoncé began teasing the anniversary project in July with Morning Dew (Donk), launching a 60-day countdown to its release.

The reissue also gives fans refreshed versions of its accompanying music videos, originally shot on 35mm and now recolored and finished in 4K. A remastered Déjà Vu video featuring Jay-Z and directed by Sophie Muller was released alongside the album.

Reflecting on B’Day, Beyoncé said in a press release, “I wanted the album to be big, percussive, hard, up-tempo, and energized, and it was important to me that we used live instrumentation.”

She added, “Hip-hop was taking over at the time, but I was fighting to preserve the bridges, melodies, and harmonies that have always been at the heart of R&B.”

Originally released during Beyonce’s birthday week in 2006, B’Day topped the charts and has since been certified five-times platinum by the RIAA.
