A Karachi police inquiry committee has completed its investigation into the alleged assault of siblings by a woman in Defence, holding SSP Korangi Fida Janwari responsible for administrative negligence.
“A transparent investigation has been conducted into the incident,” South DIG Asad Raza said, adding that the inquiry report had been forwarded to the additional inspector general.
A woman named Noor ul Ain, and her brother, were assaulted by a woman — using a dumbbell — outside their apartment in DHA’s Khayaban-e-Bukhari.
A viral video of the incident showed the woman beating Noor, and when she resisted, police officers restrained her and her companion instead of the attacker. A person in plain clothes was also seen taking an officer’s official weapon and using it to smash a CCTV camera.
The Sindh High Court (SHC) has also ordered police to ensure protection for the family.
According to the sources, the report recommended action against Janwari over administrative negligence in handling the matter.
It also recommended that the case registered against the affected family be dismissed under B-class.
Legal action was recommended against four Korangi district police officials, the sources said. They include Darakhshan SHO Rashid Ali, SIU officer Imran and police mobile officer Aftab.
The report further recommended registration of a case on the complaint of the affected family, according to sources.
It also recommended cases against two women and a man seen assaulting the family in a video, the sources said.
South DIG Raza said action would be taken against those responsible in accordance with the law in light of the inquiry report.
