CuspAI, an AI startup in chip materials, has convinced Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, and Meta to put some skin in the game and back its AI chip materials push.
Jeff Bezos has nodded to the call by CuspAI, an artificial intelligence start-up co-founded by Dr. Chad Edwards and Prof. Max Welling in 2024, Cambridge, UK.
CuspAI is employing AI to identify advanced materials that could bolster the next-gen of computer chips.
Amid the mushroom growth for AI computing, the demand for gallium, iridium, and tantalum increases significantly.
Advanced computer chips and data center systems heavily depend on these elements, but with the increase in demand, these materials are becoming more expensive and in short supply.
Recently, the International Energy Agency alerted that data center demand for gallium could exceed current supply levels within the next four years.
CuspAI raised a $450 million Series B funding round on July 20, securing a valuation at $2.6 billion, with total funding past $580 million.
The round was co-led by Kleiner Perkins and NEA, with Bezos Expeditions, AMD Ventures, and the UK Government’s Sovereign AI Venture Fund.
The company had initially focused on materials for carbon capture and water purification, but the rapid growth in AI infrastructure provided an opportunity to explore avenues in the semiconductor industry.
