A woman faces assault and endangerment charges after police say she injured a 2-year-old while at work in a daycare in Bucks County.
The accused, Erin Burke, 27, reportedly left the preschool at Newtown Discovery.
According to the Newtown Discovery Preschool, it had informed child services in late July, the day the child suffered injuries.
Court documents show the Newtown police learned about the incident after preschool officials filed a ChildLine report.
The authorities examined the CCTV footage that they believed showed Burke with a crying toddler.
The complaint states she dropped him face down on a mat, forcefully pushed his head into a pillow, pulled him by his ankle, and finished dressing him roughly.
The Newtown Discovery Preschool described Burke’s actions as unacceptable” in a complaint filed with the Newtown Township County police.
The police reported that the toddler sustained scratches on his neck and arms.
On the other hand, Burke’s lawyer, Louis R. Busico, said she loves children.
“She in no way, shape or form would ever intentionally or even recklessly put a child in harm’s way,” he said.
“The reason why you know that is because she went to her director immediately and said, ‘Look, this just happened. I wanted you to be aware of this,” Busico claimed.
Burke is set to appear before a judge on September 3, when her arraignment is expected to be held.
