Islamabad police issue traffic plan for Independence Day event

The Islamabad Traffic Police have announced a diversion plan for Independence Day celebrations at the Victory Monument in the federal capital’s H-8.

According to the traffic plan, the entry of heavy vehicles into Islamabad will remain restricted from midnight on August 12 until midnight on August 14.

Several roads and junctions will also be closed or diverted for light traffic during the event.

Traffic from Koral Chowk towards Khayaban Chowk, including both sides of Expressway and Faisal Avenue, will be closed. Motorists travelling from Rawat and Koral towards Islamabad have been advised to use alternative routes via Khanna Pul, Lehtrar Road, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, Murree Road, Serena Hotel, Soharwardi Road and Jinnah Avenue.

Motorists travelling from Khayaban Chowk towards Koral can use Jinnah Avenue, Ninth Avenue, Double Road, Murree Road, Rawal Road and Old Airport Road.

Traffic links around Faizabad Interchange, Rawal Dam and Expressway will also face restrictions.

As per the plan, motorists travelling between Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been advised to use Ninth Avenue, Jinnah Avenue and Murree Road via Rawal Dam Chowk, depending on their destination.

Roads around Garden Flyover, I-8, Faiz Ahmed Faiz Road, Mir Chakar Road, Judicial Academy and Mir Zafarullah Road towards the Victory Monument in H-8 will remain closed to traffic.

Residents of I-8 and H-8 have been advised to use I-8 Markaz, Ninth Avenue and Jinnah Avenue for travel towards Islamabad. Those travelling towards Rawalpindi can use Ninth Avenue, IJP Road, Double Road and Murree Road.

Garden Shakarparian will also remain closed towards I-8 and Faisal Avenue. Motorists travelling towards I-8 can use Seventh Avenue, Jinnah Avenue and Ninth Avenue as alternatives.

Traffic will also be restricted at Chand Tara T-Cross towards Shakarparian, with motorists advised to use Seventh Avenue or Murree Road.

Both sides of Peshawar Road towards Kuri Road Chowk and Srinagar Highway will also be closed. Motorists travelling from Islamabad Chowk via Srinagar Highway have been advised to use Peshawar Mor Flyover, Ninth Avenue, Jinnah Avenue and Margalla Road.

Those travelling from Murree and Bhara Kahu towards Islamabad can use Murree Road, Serena Hotel, Soharwardi Road and Jinnah Avenue.

Motorists travelling from Bhara Kahu, Murree and Islamabad towards Rawalpindi can use Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road, Captain Naeem Tufail Shaheed Chowk, Lehtrar Road, Khanna and Expressway.

Those travelling to Islamabad International Airport have been advised to use Margalla Road, Jinnah Avenue, Peshawar Mor Flyover, Srinagar Highway and Iran Avenue.
