Din Thomas, a veteran MMA coach turned broadcaster called it quits and won’t be available in the corner fighters.
Thomas announced his surprise career move following Gillian Robertson’s unanimous decision loss at Saturday’s UFC 330.
After the fights, joining on the analyst desk, Thomas revealed his decision at the Wells Fargo Centre in Philadelphia.
“I do have an announcement for you guys. I told myself I would continue to do this until I took Gillian as far as she could go,” said Thomas.
Thomas then dropped the bombshell announcement, saying, “I think that might be as far as she can go, and I am officially retiring from cornering fighters tonight.”
“It’s just I told myself that I would do this with her. I would see her journey out and take her as far as I think she can go, and this might be as far as she can go,” Thomas continued.
Thomas then went on to disclose the reason why he made the decision.
“It’s a lot of work—it’s a lot of stress.
“I’ve been slowly telling you, like I don’t cut weight with them—and it’s not fair to them. They somebody who is really going to put that type of work in with them,” Thomas added.
Thomas, was appearing as an analyst on the panel of Paramount+, walked out of the octagon to serve as Robertson’s cornerman during her fight against Mackenzie Dern, the second featured fight on the card.
