Rocky Mount officials are scrambling to find out what led to the deaths of three people found inside a mobile home on King Charles Court.
Rocky Mount officials discovered three people dead at 10:45 a.m. ET on Monday, August 3.
The family members have identified the deceased as a married couple: Tracy Swann and Kenny Swann and Kenny Swann, and 20-year-old Mahala Scurlock, per NBC affiliate WRAL News.
The outlet had reported that electricity issues might have contributed to the tragic incident, citing Tracey Swann’s daughter, Krista Crisp.
Rocky Mount, a city in North Carolina, has been struggling with electricity shortages for months, pending billing issues.
Crisp added, that the family’s utility bill was outstanding at $2,000 and her mom was the sole bread earner, who tried partial payments, but city officials insisted on paying full amount.
Officials from the Rocky Mount are investigating whether a generator was running inside the home, creating dangerous carbon monoxide fumes.
So far, no cause of death has been determined, and there appears to be no safety threat to surrounding citizens.
“The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been contacted and will notify the Rocky Mount Police Department regarding the official cause of death,” read the statement.
