Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel has claimed that under his leadership, the bureau is building strongest-ever cross-agency relationships with law enforcement from China and Russia, the two countries considered longtime rivals of the U.S.
The United States (U.S.) is pursuing good relations in a bid to combat transnational crimes, including fentanyl, drug trafficking, cyber fraud and sexual exploitation.
According to Reuters, under the new partnership, the personnel from China have visited the U.S. and vice versa. Similarly, both law enforcement officials have shared intelligence, joint raids and arrests were made.
The 46-year-old Republican leader visited China in July and a similar visit is planned to Russia in October this year.
Speaking to the publication, the FBI Director said the new alliances were being made with “non-traditional partners” and they are to combat specific crimes, including cyber scam and child pornography networks.
The FBI and China’s Ministry of Public Security and Dubai police launched a joint operation dubbed “Operation Sand Dollar” against cyber fraud in May. The joint forces, known internally as “working groups” seized over $300 million and 300 people were arrested. FBI claimed to have freed thousands of trafficked workers as a result of the operation.
Patel said he was aware of the “adversarial approach” of Russia and China toward the US; however, he added that if “we can go and have wins for America, then we must engage.”
