Jakob Butturff, an 8-time PBA bowling champion passed away in what authorities described as ‘unexpectedly’, on Friday, July 31, 2026.
The Professional Bowlers Association announced Butturff’s passing without providing details as to what happened, saying he “died unexpectedly”.
Butterurff went on to become the PBA bowling sensation during the 2016 season.
He triumphed in his first two PBA Tour titles.
As the standout player of the PBA Regional Tour, he bagged a streak of nine titles and earned West Region and Northwest Region Player of the Year awards.
Butturff piled up 27 PBA Regional Tour titles and added Northwest Region Player of the Year honours in 2017 and 2018.
Butturff’s ‘unexpected’ death has his fans and colleagues heartbroken, who have been pouring tributes on social media.
PBA Commissioner Tom Clark described Butturff as, “one of the most unique players in PBA history.”
“It ain’t supposed to be like this,” wrote fellow PBA competitor EJ Tackett.
Butturff was born and seen his brought up in Las Vegas and also spent years living in Phoenix, Arizona.
The next year, he closed the PBA Tour season as the runner-up in Chris Schenkel PBA Player of the Year voting.
Butturff, with eight PBA Tour championship titles on his back, he also won one most prestigious title in pro bowling during 2019 USBC Masters.
