Jim Carrey is set to star in a live-action The Jetsons movie.
Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed Thursday, August 6, that the Golden Globe winner will lead the upcoming film in an unspecified role. The film is currently slated to arrive beyond 2027, according to the company’s Q2 shareholder letter.
Carrey, 64, had been linked to the project since October 2025, when Varietyreported that he was in talks to lead the movie. Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow and co-writer Joe Epstein are also attached to the project.
The original The Jetsons premiered in 1962 and followed George Jetson and his family as they navigated life in a futuristic world. Jane, Judy and Elroy rounded out the family, while robotic maid Rosie and their dog Astro became fan favorites.
The Hanna-Barbera animated series ran through several revivals before ending in 1987. Its characters later appeared across movies, comics and video games, including the 1990 theatrical release Jetsons: The Movie.
The role gives Carrey another major family-friendly franchise following his three appearances as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehogfilms.
The beloved actor could soon revisit another iconic character, too. He is reportedly in talks to return as the Grinch for a sequel to 2000’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas, with Ron Howard expected to return as director.
