Karachi Traffic Police on Monday issued a comprehensive traffic management plan for the central Chehlum procession scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday), as some roads will remain closed.

According to the traffic plan, the central Chehlum procession will commence from Nishtar Park at 9am on Tuesday. MA Jinnah Road will remain closed to traffic during the procession.

Traffic travelling from Saddar towards Tower will be diverted via Preedy Street and II Chundrigar Road. Diversions will also be enforced around Lighthouse, Empress Market, Regal Chowk and Tibet Centre.

Vehicles approaching from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be redirected through Kashmir Road and People’s Chowrangi, while traffic arriving from Korangi, Landhi and the National Highway will be diverted to Rashid Minhas Road and the Super Highway.

Motorists travelling from Nazimabad will be able to reach their destinations via Lasbela, Garden and Nishtar Road. Traffic coming from Liaquatabad will be diverted from Lasbela Chowk towards Nazimabad No 10.

Traffic from Hassan Square will be routed through Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Society Light Signal and Teen Hatti before reaching Lasbela Chowk. Vehicles arriving from Shahrah-e-Faisal will be diverted through Society Light Signal and Sher Shah Suri Road.

Motorists travelling from Jamshed Road towards Guru Mandir have been advised to use Bahadur Yar Jang Road or Soldier Bazaar Road as alternate routes.

The traffic police further announced that heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the city from 10am until the conclusion of the procession.

Parking of all kinds will be strictly prohibited along the procession route, and any vehicle found parked in violation of the restrictions will be immediately towed away.

The Chehlum will be observed on August 4 with religious devotion and solemnity under heightened security arrangements.

The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala is observed annually on the 20th of Safar-ul-Muzaffar, marking the end of the 40-day mourning period following their martyrdom in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

Mourning processions featuring Alam, Tazia and Zuljinah will be taken out in various cities across the province.
