Keith Urban had an emotional moment onstage — and the timing has fans raising their eyebrows.
The country star, 58, became visibly tearful while performing We Go Backat the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on Friday.
The performance comes amid speculation that his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, has moved on with a new man.
Before launching into the song, Urban explained the story behind it.
“This song is about a guy and a girl growing up in a small town,” he told the crowd.
“They were the first of their friends to fall in love. They had a good thing going, until the guy screwed it up. I will do that.”
He then described the pair reuniting years later, only for the woman to reveal she was already with someone else.
“She tells him she’s got somebody else,” Urban said.
The song’s emotional lyrics appeared to hit especially hard as Urban performed, with the singer later wiping tears from his face while crouching onstage.
“This is why we keep coming back to Atlantic City,” he told cheering fans.
Urban and Kidman finalized their divorce in January after nearly 20 years of marriage. The former couple, who wed in 2006, share daughters Sunday, 18, and Faith, 15.
Kidman, 59, later sparked romance rumors with private equity businessman Michael Reinstein after they were spotted together in Portofino, Italy.
Reports have painted conflicting pictures of Urban’s reaction.
One source claimed he was “absolutely devastated,” while another told the Daily Mailhe was “relieved that she’s moved on” after reportedly feeling guilty about ending the marriage.
Meanwhile, Urban has also faced romance rumours involving singer Karley Scott Collins and guitarist Maggie Baugh, though both have denied the speculation.
As for that emotional performance? Maybe it was simply the song. Maybe it was the moment. Or maybe some songs hit differently after divorce.
